After a nine-month hiatus, China has allowed the creation of new games

A couple of days ago, China approved its first series of video game licences, thus ending a nine-month freeze on the gaming market.

Last year, the Chinese government did a massive crackdown on tech giants, putting restrictions on the number of hours spent on video games by children and slowing approval of new IPs. However, Beijing has since gone back on its decision, approving 45 new titles.

Still, none of these new projects concern Tencent or NetEase, the two biggest Chinese studios. These two companies have faced several allegations of monopolistic practices and data abuse. Nonetheless, the fact that Beijing decided to approve new franchises show the importance of the industry for the country. Since the approval of new games, many companies have even soared on the stock market.
