Children who play video games perform better in motor skill tests

Video games are not as bad as some people tend to believe. While some criticise their violent content, others believe that they are beneficial for the development of children’s brains.

The study analysed the activity of over 2000 children’s brains through a functional brain scan. The aim was to determine the cognitive abilities of the children and the impact of video games on the brain. According to Professor Bader Chaarani of the University of Vermont, children who play video games perform better than non-gamers in memory and motor skill tests.

Still, the researchers have noted that this difference could not be explained fully due to a lack of knowledge on the topic. For neuro-radiologist Kirk Welker, more studies need to be done on causality and the influence of video game styles to better understand this phenomenon.
