“World of Warcraft” was cancelled in China after 14 years

14 years after its launch in China, “World of Warcraft” is being shut down. This is due to a dispute between the American developer Blizzard and its local internet partner NetEase.

For those unfamiliar with the gaming franchise, it is an MMORPG game which was extremely popular in the 2000s. Thanks to its immersive gameplay, players could spend hundreds of hours exploring the medieval world known as Azeroth. In 2008, the title was launched in China with the help of internet giant NetEase. Now, however, the Chinese company and Blizzard were unable to come to terms regarding their new contract.

Still, this is not the end for “World of Warcraft”. Blizzard has already announced that it was in discussion with several potential partners for a return of the game in China.
