Stephanie Economou is the first winner of the new Grammy for video games

From “Zelda” to “Super Mario”, video game scores have always been an important part of the video game experience, and it has finally been acknowledged by the Recording Academy.

During the 2023 edition of the Grammys, a new category was added. The Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media aims at rewarding the most impactful gaming music of the year. Among the nominees, there was Stephanie Economou for “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”, Austin Wintory for “Aliens: Fireteam Elite” and Bear McCreary for “Call of Duty: Vanguard”.

In the end, the award went to Stephanie Economou. She stated that music plays an integral part of the gaming experience and that this recognition by the Recording Academy was long overdue.
